In a long-distant past, when Rome trembled under the ferocious rule of the Emperor Valerian, the blood of martyrs flowed in the streets like a silent seed of faith. One of the unforgettable figures of that time was a young deacon named Lawrence, whose memory will forever live on. He was burned to death on the gridiron and his sacrifice became a song of hope for the faithful. Many centuries later, in 1524, in a small village called Foragginale, a church was dedicated to him and to Our Lady of Succour. Commissioned by the Gonella family, it was not to be just a simple stone building but a place to protect sacred memories.

The altar was decorated with a recess housing the image of St. Lawrence, looking out over the devoted. Next to him, Our Lady of Succour was placed in another recess near the door, ready to protect pilgrims. Time was not kind to these walls but the chapel passed to the Patrono family who restored and extended it in 1894, and a trace of this work of devotion is legible on the architrave of the door. Anyone stopping in front of the simple façade with its twin doors, one leading to the church and the other to the sacristy, will not only see white painted stones but will experience a breath of eternity, a blend of life and sacrifice which brings together the courage of the martyrs, the compassion of the families who built it and the silent prayers of the faithful.
