D’ALESSANDRO PALACE
This building is a silent testament to centuries of history and prestige. The D’Alessandro family, documented as far back as the 13th century, left an indelible mark on this town with a blend of nobility, economy and culture. In the mid-1800s, the members of the family decided to build a property which was not just a home but a symbol of status and modernity. They appointed the talented architect Carella who sensitively designed a building which could compete with the prestigious residences of the most illustrious families in the town. After years of work, the building was completed in 1858, a unique, elegant space which marked the passage from neoclassicism to the eclecticism of the early 1800s.
The main façade boasts a harmonious arrangement of columns with Ionic capitals, gables and sculpted stone decorations which immediately grasps the attention of passers-by. On the first floor, the rooms are decorated with Pompeian motifs and are rich with mythological and iconographical scenes, evoking a distant and refined atmosphere. Each room preserves the history of its former inhabitants, their parties, their important decisions and the dedication of a family who looked to the future without forgetting the past. In the 19th century, the D’Alessandro family were players in the economic and social scene of Grumo and in 1893, Giacomo D’Alessandro became the founding member of the “Società Commerciale”, an initiative intending to encourage commerce and development in the town. The building still dominates the town today with its elegant architecture, telling a story of nobility, culture and entrepreneurialism. Palazzo D’Alessandro preserves the past and the pride of a family who had a great impact on the history of this town.
